Patients Rights & Responsibilities

Patient and Family Rights:

  1. The right to be treated politely.

  2. The right to personal safety and security .

  3. The right to appropriate assessment and pain management submit complaints or suggestions, either verbally or in writing .

  4. The right to be treated with respect and dignity at all times .

  5. The right to access emergency medical care and treatment easily and promptly.

  6. The right to receive healthcare based on their medical needs .

  7. The right to be referred to other facilities when medically necessary .

  8. The right to receive and access medical information, including diagnosis, assessment, treatment, and progress updates regarding their medical condition.

  9. The right to ensure the confidentiality of all personal and medical information, including the medical record.

  10. The right to know the details of treatment bills and to be informed of any additional costs associated with their treatment .

  11. The right to know the direct and long-term financial impacts of treatment options, as far as they are known .

  12. The right to privacy while receiving medical care .

  13. The right to access information regarding the types of services provided and the results of quality assessments .

  14. The right to receive medical care from qualified healthcare providers with proper education, training, and/or experience .

  15. The right to have their cultural, psychological, spiritual, personal, and social values, beliefs, and preferences considered and respected .

  16. The right to accept or refuse treatment and/or prescribed medication without pressure, taking responsibility for their decisions despite medical advice .

  17. The right to receive information regarding prescribed medications, proper usage, and expected side effects .

  18. The right to receive appropriate healthcare without discrimination based on age, gender, religion, social status, payment method, disabilities, or special needs.

  19. The right to know the names of healthcare providers, such as doctors, nurses, and other participants in care, including students, residents, or trainees.

  20. The right to ask questions, review options and alternatives for care and treatment, and have patient or family preferences considered in the care plan.

  21. The right to protection from verbal and non-verbal abuse during visits or stay at the hospital .

  22. The right to Informed consent prior to any procedure/surgery/anesthesi/ blood transfusion (with the right to ask questions).

  23. The right to obtain a copy of reports/discharge summaries/important results in accordance with hospital policy.


Patient and Family Responsibilities:

  1. Pay treatment fees and hospital charges.

  2. Refrain from smoking inside the hospital, in accordance with Jordanian law.

  3. Adhere to visiting hours as instructed by the hospital.

  4. Fully adhere to treatment plans agreed upon with healthcare providers.

  5. Accept responsibility for any complications resulting from refusing any treatment, procedure, or medical advice.

  6. Adhere to scheduled appointments and inform the treating physician if unable to attend or to reschedule.

  7. Provide a comfortable and quiet environment for other patients in the same or adjacent rooms.

  8. Follow instructions and recommendations that help improve health conditions.

  9. Comply with prescribed clinical and therapeutic nutrition plans from the treating physician.

  10. Fully comply with instructions specific to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

  11. Take care of hospital property in rooms or any other areas within the hospital.

  12. Follow hospital safety policies and infection control measures.

  13. Treat hospital staff with respect and refrain from harming their dignity or causing physical or psychological harm.

  14. Follow the instructions of hospital staff, including doctors and administrative personnel, ensuring that their goal is patient care and safety.

  15. Provide the hospital and treating physician with accurate and up-to-date information regarding your medical condition, including past illnesses, symptoms, medications, and family history.
